Hidden in the bottom of the 1/2 case housing this simple, lovely daguerreotype of an impassive young woman is a pencil inscription that reads: Sweet Sixteen. Ha! Ha!

The tones and sharpness of this resilvered  and resealed 1/6th plate are superb. The nearly perfect surface is embellished with both rose and gold tinting. A barely visible dark horizontal line appears to be part of the background, and a fine line of perimeter tarnish graces the mat’s edge.
