This likeness of a well-to-do man by an unknown maker bears both strong character and great presence. No doubt this was a man of confidence and great means.

The resealed plate is in excellent condition with wonderful full tones, excellent clarity, and rosy tinting to the skin tones. Tarnish is located around the mat edge. A “swish” of tarnish emanates from the left side, but does not intrude on the subject. There are some whitish spots on the right side, but like the tarnish, they do not detract from the image. The full case is intact, though the hinge is tenuously close to coming apart.
