Shores of Niagara
William England
Albumen Stereo View
USA
c.1860
In the early years of photography, Niagara Falls and the surrounding landscape drew the attention of countless photographers. The then unspoiled natural landscape was barely affected by the ambitions of commerce that would eventually replace trees with casinos. This lovely hand-tinted picturesque stereoview entitled "From the Ferry on the Canada Side" shows an idyllic riverside scene barely recognizable today. Produced in the style of works by William England, the name of the maker of this image is unknown. The image is in very good condition and the subtle tinting is fine. The buff coloured mount is sturdy with slightly bumped corners.
