Collodion POP cabinet Card
Canada
c.1890
This charming Canadian cabinet card is inscribed on the back: "Paul Revere and Ellen Revere." Somehow I don't think there is any relation to the American silversmith and patriot active 100 years prior to the creation of this amusing photograph. Unfortunately there is no written explanation on the card about the meaning or purpose of the costumes, so I think we can speculate that this charming couple may have been traveling minstrels, or thespians, or...
The Climo Studio in St. John New Brunswick was among the most successful firms on the East Coast of Canada. The firm produced a legacy of images that portrayed life in New Brunswick right up to the 1960's. The cabinet card offered here is a collodion printing out print. It is well preserved with terrific tonality and excellent sharpness and is adhered to a sturdy green mount with some light inconsequential stains.
