Stereo ambrotype

Great Britain

c. 1860

Offered here is an uncommon stereo ambrotype from Great Britain showing a young lad seated on a hedge row surrounding a stone church, and with a large manor house -- perhaps a vicarage -- in the background.

The sealed images have a label on reverse from the firm of Carpenter & Westley Opticians, 24 Regent Street London. Carpenter and Westley were the first to commercially produce lantern slides in Great Britain from about 1826 onward.

The back painted cover glass shows some scratching and deterioration, and there are a few minor scratches on the image as well, but otherwise the image has good tones and very good clarity.
